Lampang

Lampang is a province in northern Thailand, and lies in the catchment area of the river Mae Nam Wang, who runs with the Mae Nam Ping just below the province, and flows into the Gulf of Thailand in Bangkok.

Lampang is located around the river valley to the river, Mae Nam Wang, and mountain ranges in the north to south direction, both east and west of the valley.There are no natural, larger lakes, but the Kiu Lom Dam forms a large reservoir 40 km north of the town of Lampang.

National Parks Doi Luang, Chae Son and Doi Khuntan are located in the western mountains, while the Wiang Kosai is located in the eastern mountain range. There are tropical rainforests and mountain forests in the province. There is also a national center for research, development and protection of elephant breeding just 30 km west of the provincial capital.

Highway 1 from Chang Rai goes south through the entire province, and ends in Bangkok.  There are regional airport in Lampang, and both highway 11 and the railroad between Bangkok and Chiang Mai runs through the province.

The major industries are agriculture, forestry and tourism.  Around Lampang is two temples visited very often: Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, and Wat Phra Kaew Bon Tao.
