Mae Hong Son is the provincial capital of the province of Mae Hong Son in northern Thailand.  The population is estimated (2005) to be 9100.

The city is perched high at 1500 metres and is thus one of Thailand’s highest cities. It is located in a mountainous area surrounded by jungle and rainforest.  Trade with Myanmar is important for the city, but it is also the tourist industry which has been of some significance.

This is also home of some of Thailands many tribes, and the most known tribe is the Karen Long Neck tribe.
